FC Goa and Salgaocar FC share the spoils, Dempo pip Churchill Brothers in GPL Super League

Despite dropping points, Salgaocar have maintained the top spot with 25 points, while the full points has helped the Golden Eagles to climb back to the 2nd spot.


FC Goa scored a late equaliser through Vellington Fernandes as they held Salgaocar FC to a 1-1 draw in the CAM Goa Professional League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Thursday.

Earlier, Mark Carvalho put Salgaocar FC ahead in the game in the 70th minute.


FC Goa had the first chance of the game when a long ball in the Salgaocar FC keeper Jason D’Mello failed to deal with a long ball in the area which was wasted by Vasim Inamdar and Salgeo Dias.


Salgaocar FC had a series of corners in the first quarter, which were wasted by the Greens as none of the three corners were materialized to the fullest. At the other end, FC Goa came close to scoring when Vellington Fernandes sent in a long ball from the right flank to Vasim Inamdar, who managed to connect the ball only to see his effort go wide.


Later Vasim missed another chance when his effort connecting to Leewan Castanha’s cross came off the post. Leewan had an attempt on goal from a distance which was easily dealt with by the rival custodian. In the second half, Salgaocar FC created chances and came close to scoring when Antush Moniz made a run on the right and sent in a cut back pass to Mark Carvalho, but the latter shot was dealt by the rival custodian.


Later Antush attempted another long range shot from outside the box, forcing a save from Hansel Coelho.


Salgaocar broke the deadlock in the 70th minute coming from a corner after FC Goa failed to clear Sidharth Kundaikar’s flag kick, which then fell to Salgaocar Fc played whose deflected shot was headed in by Mark Carvalho.


In the dying minutes of the game, FC Goa found the equalizer through Vellington Fernandes, ensuring his side would walk away with a point from the fixture.


Dempo pip Churchill Brothers at Nagoa Panchayat Ground

The Nagoa ground in Goa was filled with excitement as two football giants, Churchill Brothers FC Goa and Dempo SC, locked horns in the CAM Goa Professional League on Thursday. The match promised to be a thrilling encounter between two talented teams, and it did not disappoint.


The first half saw Dempo SC take the lead early on, with Beneston Barretto scoring a well-taken goal in the 8th minute. Churchill Brothers tried to respond quickly, but their efforts were thwarted by a well-organized Dempo defense. Dempo doubled their lead in the 28th minute, with Pedro Gonsalves scoring a superb goal that left the Churchill Brothers goalkeeper with no chance.


The first half was dominated by Dempo, who controlled the midfield and kept the Churchill Brothers attack at bay. Churchill Brothers tried to mount a comeback, but their efforts were in vain as the Dempo defense held firm. The first half ended with Dempo SC leading 2-0.


The second half saw Churchill Brothers come out with renewed energy, as they tried to salvage something from the match. They dominated possession and created several chances, but their finishing let them down. The Dempo defense, led by the impressive Adil Khan, held firm and kept Churchill Brothers at bay.


Despite Churchill Brothers' dominance, it was Dempo who scored the next goal. In the 69th minute, Trijoy Dias scored a well-taken goal for Churchill Brothers, giving them a glimmer of hope. The goal lifted Churchill Brothers' spirits, and they continued to push forward in search of an equalizer.


In the dying minutes of the match, Churchill Brothers came close to scoring on several occasions, but the Dempo defense held firm. The match ended with Dempo SC winning 2-1, much to the delight of their fans.


Overall, it was an entertaining match that saw Dempo SC come out on top. Their defense was outstanding, while their midfield controlled the game. Churchill Brothers, on the other hand, will rue their missed chances and will have to work harder if they want to compete with the best teams in the league.
