Sporting Goa's Nickson Castanha's injury-time goal sink Calangute; Salgaocar pip Churchill Brothers

The Flaming Orange top the Goa Pro League first leg with 21 points from, while the Greens finished second with the same points.


Salgaocar FC and Sporting Clube de Goa registered wins in their respective matches in the CAM Goa Professional League on Thursday.


Both teams registered solitary goal wins against their respective opponents. While the Greens got the better of Churchill Brothers at Nagoa ground, Sporting Clube de Goa scored in stoppage time winner against Calangute Association at Duler stadium.


By virtue of this result, Sporting Clube de Goa climbed to the top of the table with 21 points from 10 matches while Salgaocar FC also moved on equal points from equal outings.


Calangute Association dropped to fourth position with 18 points from 10 matches while Churchill Brothers remained on sixth spot with 14 points from equal matches.


At Nagoa ground, Salgaocar FC and Churchill Brothers played a goalless first 45 minutes. In the second half, both sides made some changes wherein it was Salgaocar FC team which benefited from the change. Shubham Shirwaikar, who came in as a 63rd minute substitute in place of Akash Sanadi, scored the lone goal of the game in the 73rd minute. The goal proved to be the match-winner.


At Duler Stadium, Calangute Association were handed their second defeat of the season by Sporting Clube de Goa. It nearly looked like both teams would share the points after witnessing no goals throughout the 90 minutes. However, Nickson Castanha, who came on in place of Chandan Gawas in the stoppage time scored within two minutes. Sporting Clube are in fine run which saw them move to the top of the table.
